How-to for charities, CICs and non-profits
Glossary
Circles are where activities are posted.
People join circles and are notified when an activity is posted. Circles can be themed around an area, a cause, an organisation... or anything else.
You can join or start as many circles as you like.
An activity is an offer, a request or an event.
These are posted in one or more circles. Activities can also be set as visible to people who aren't yet part of your circle.
Offers things you would like to offer the community. As a charity you are more likely to post requests.
Requests are your asks for micro volunteers. For example you may need a volunteer to help you with some book keeping, or photography, or data, or cleaning, or marketing, or help providing your day-to-day services.
Think of micro volunteering as anything in between designing a poster remotely, to half a day a week regular help.
Post an event when:
- You need several people to help do something. For example Dean Trail Volunteers run weekly digs, they set up an event each week. Crantock Street Community Garden post monthly help-out events.
- You are organising a dip in the sea, or a walk in nature.
Quickstart guide
1. Sign up
You can either sign up as yourself or your charity.
2. Join a circle
During the sign up process you'll be asked if you'd like to join a circle. We suggest joining a generic circle local to you. For example People of Plymouth, Cornwall Link, People of Newquay.
Once registered, you can set up your own circle as well, if you like.
3. Post your activities
As a charity / CIC / non-profit it's most likely you'll want to post requests and events for micro volunteers.
It's super quick to add activities, so chunk tasks up to their smallest size. You can put as much info as you like for each activity, but usually they don't need a "job description".
Small requests = more volunteers.
