Are you passionate about improving people’s mental health, emotional wellbeing and sense of belonging? Interested in achieving these through the therapeutic medium of gardening and being with Nature?
The Horticultural Therapy Trust (HTT) is looking to recruit an additional volunteer to join our diverse group of staff and volunteers. As a small charity, HTT has been working in Plymouth for thirteen years to support people inclusively, from all backgrounds, challenged by moderate to severe mental health issues. HTT is participant led and so all decisions and solutions are reflected with participants, volunteers, staff and trustees, as a team.
Our staff work on weekdays between 11am and 3pm (10-4pm outside winter). As a volunteer you will be supporting staff to provide opportunity to our participants to be part of a non-judgemental and empathic community. Your role will include but is not limited to;
- Holding space for our participants. Being present, actively listening and offering compassion without trying to offer solutions.
- Working with participants to plant, grow or harvest vegetables and flowers.
- Working with participants to maintain or develop allotment features or infrastructure.
- Participate in, or lead art, conservation or woodwork projects.
Being a volunteer is both a challenging and rewarding role and provides the opportunity for you to make a positive difference to people’s lives, to learn new skills and to discover people and places in Plymouth new to you. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds with empathetic and mentoring skills, who have a commitment to the aims of HTT, and bring with them experience gained in a professional capacity or through lived experience. This is a voluntary post but all reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. An enhanced DBS certificate and satisfactory reference will be required for the role. The DBS will be funded by HTT for the successful applicant.
